quick help..

Hey all, I'm new here and was wondering a few things about burning. Well.. lets start it off, sometime when I burn my movies, I see a few glitches in them on some dvd players but not on other dvd player. Is it the quality of the dvd player? or is the dvd messed up alittle. and also, is there any programs that can check to see if the burnt movies are error free from glitches and whatnot or do I have to watch each and every movie.

Second, I get the error "SCSI Target Error" when I burn using Nero commonly now (maybe 1/5 time or more). I have no idea why since I'm not even using any SCSI cable or anything. Once this error pop up, my blank is now a coaster. I heard that the error could be caused by bad blanks. Correct me if I'm wrong.


and for the info I'm using. To rip my movies, I do:
DVD Decrypter --> DVD Shrink --> Nero 5.5.10.xx (I don't like the newer Nero but if it'll fix any of my problems, then I'll switch in a heartbeat). I have 600ish MB of ram, Athlon 1GB (yes I'm a little outdated), and plenty of HD space if that makes a difference.

This sounds like a media one to me.
Check out your standalone player at http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers
Check the users' comments for what media works well and what doesn't.

My machine (and most people I know) have found DVD-R most compatible (as opposed to +R) and A-Grade media made with Ritek dye have always been well reputed for broad compatibility. A look in the DVD Burning forum here will keep you abreast of developments on that score.

As for checking your burns, does your version of Nero have Nero CD-DVD Speed in the Toolkit section? If not there is a program called DVDInfoPro ( http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ ). The RPM section draws a graph similar to the Nero app. to test your burn.

But bear in mind recordable DVD's have plummeted in price over the last 12 months. There is no longer any mileage in buying budget brands (or ones you've never heard of). Buy the best, the difference is pennies. Saves all the hassle.

If you've got loads of blanks to use up, use them on short movies so you can "overShrink" a bit. Crap media tends to be at its worst at the outer edge, so if you don't fill the disc you get less problems.

I ordered a pack of those 'el cheap-o' brands and I tried to burn using them and kept getting a "Focus Error" or something similar and they would not even read to be burn on. I called the company back and they will offer a refund but I have to pay for shipping. The customer tech guy also said he would personally get the ones with Ritek like you posted so I'll pay more for that and hopefully my error count will drop. Thank you once more!
