dvd2svcd and 4:3 video driving me nuts

how do i encode 512x384 (4:3) into a dvd from and avi? ive tried 4:3 no borders, 16:9 encoded 4:3 borders added and anamorphic 16:9 no borders added. all give me either borders at the sides or top and bottom or both, so i end up with a square of video in the middle of the screen.

With the latest build (1.2.2B3) 16:9 Encode as 4:3 should do it.
However, there is another rework of AVI resizing in the next build which should suit everyone.

Just starting out, but I would choose 16:9: Borders Added, choose to edit the Avisynth file during encoding, and replace the resize/borders like so:

LanczosResize(648,432)
AddBorders(36,24,36,24)

If you don't want to correct for TV overscan, a straight LanczosResize(720,480) will fill your 4:3 display.
