when to use DECOMB ?

When I should use DECOMP with DVD-Rb (0.67)?

I reencode Laputa Castle of the sky, with ProCoder, and the result was flicking some time. Like the images were not aligned and I look frame by frame. I use decomp and the result is OK (I think, not saw the movie completly).

Do you mean decomb? I personally would never ever use decomb to deinterlace a movie unless that movie has been very poorly interlaced. I have backed up Laputa myself and I believe I used CCE SP and DVD RB. I would try that combo and see what results you get. But again you should NOT have to deinterlace with decomb to get a nice output on this movie. Also you could try using dvd shrink if there arent too many extras or if you dont mind getting rid of the extras and the jap audio track. although on these films i like to keep both english and jap with eng subtitles so i can watch it the original way if i want.

what is the main utility for decomb ? I tried to find information, but all I found was to use it to deinterlace..(no idea why It's interlace in the first place, and what so special about it)

that's an original frame taken from the avs.

I just reencode the movie without decomb, and I didn't be able to capture a bad frame :( but I had flicking each second.

that's an exemple how is the result without decomb when I don't have flicking too

In the future I recommend hosting your image online (you can do it for free, without registration, at imageshack.us) and then using the [img] tag to put it in your post.

If you have to use an attachment then PM me to let me know it needs approval.

If I don't deinterlace the DVD and I tried to reencode it with Procoder 2.0 I obtain flicking each second most of the time. I can use decomb or the adaptive deinterlace within Procoder 2. Which one will be the better ?

I want to be able to watch my DVDs on my PC and TV.

TheSeeker did you tried to watch the dvd on your computer ? And CCE do a deinterlace by default ? (maybe that why you didn't have artifact)

I did watch it on my computer and no cce does not deinterlace by default. Not sure whats up with that particular image capture. Even software dvd players on computers have deinterlacers in them. So you should almost never see it that bad unless it was poorly interlaced. Is yours an ntsc region 1 dvd?

EDIT: I guess in your case maybe procoder and decomb is the best option for your dvd. For my copy of Laputa it came out perfect without it.

I watched it with PowerDVD 6. The result is like watching the DVD on a 486 :)

I'll try to find others dvds like that. Maybe there is a pattern that will produce the same result on my computer.
