OK...I did a search and couldn't find an answer to my problem, or maybe I've used the wrong key word(s).
My DVD Rom will not recognize any copyrighted DVD's. It worked perfectly until about a week ago. It will play all other disk's including music cd's, back up copy's of the dvd's I own, slide show dvd's, and dvd's I've made from home movies. But whenever I insert a copyrighted dvd I get an error "no disk in drive". If I go into windows explorer and click on the drive where the dvd is I get "please insert disk".
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, I updated the firmware from the manufacturer's website after the problem started thinking that may fix the problem. It's a Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616T. The latest firmware is ver.311. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it. The only thing I haven't tried is physically taking it out of the computer and putting it back.
