Hello,
when i author a dvd with scenarist's standard template it does work for most dvd settop players but there's one player that refuses to play it. I'm not sure what exactly goes wrong. Maybe its the missing 'video manager' link or missing defined language (audio is defined as 'english' though). Would it help adding a 'not specified' language to 'video manager' and 'vts_1'?

The standard scenario should work with every settop. Adding a not used language domain won't help (normally, if the player is DVD conform).

it should but it doesn't...my settop play won't play a DVD if it doesn't have a language folder present as well
@HeldImZelt - try adding a language folder in the VTS Manager and place a dummy PGC there...point the first play to the dummy and pre it to the movie...this should help

That's a known limitation with a few older set top players, Philips, Toshiba to name 2.
This is the main reason I had to sell my copy of Reel DVD. Authoring apps created by Spruce (Spruce Up, Maestro, DVD SP) and Sonic (DVDit, DVD Producer) do create the dummy _0.VOB files that are needed. For some reason Daiken apps do not do this.

Strange... i set up this scenario and still no go. I even tried language/pgc on video manager jumping to title1 (maybe i should test both at once).

First PGC is connected to VTS_1 PGC (dont know why there's no arrow).
I have no problems when its authored with IfoEdit. Anyone know how IfoEdit's scenario would look like in Scenarist?
Edit: When i open 'VIDEO_TS.IFO' with IfoEdit and press 'DVD Play' a messagebox comes up showing '* No valid DVD-Video volume could be located - Do you still want to continue?'
Could be useful as indicator...

That just means there is no DVD in the drive.
Where does first_play go? Looks like nowhere. Link it to either the root menu or the title

Look at first play 'pre', its yellow, already connected to PGC_1_1 (title menu).

doing what you did doesnt help much.. that fake menu pgc doesnt create a _0.vob file (as disturbed suggested) .. just adds references in the ifo.. you need to put something there (like a .bmp for a still frame or short duration vid or something) but then link your first play straight to the title pgc (title_1)
your player needs to be fooled more. what model is it btw?

That's kinda embarrassing... :) Seems the player (cybercom 4931) isn't capable of reading +R media. At least they say on videohelp.com's compatibility list. +RW's do work with scenarist standard scenario (tested). I need to check my other DVD's tomorrow.. i never used -R or +/-RW for Video-DVD's (i think.. :)).
My apologies and thanks to everyone trying to help...
