Subtitles in a text file

So my brother ripped a DVD for me, and somehow he managed to rip the subtitles into a text file. I'm trying to figure out how to play the movie with these subs. To me it looks like a timestamp and then a line to be displayed, I'll quote a snippit from it here.

What's the meaning of this check?

What I'm trying to figure out is how to view these subs along with the movie. thanks!

Hi-

If I'm not mistaken, those are SRT subs. Some players (such as BS Player, in the downloads section) can display them without installing anything, as they have their own subtitle engine. But any player can display them (I think) after you've installed VobSub (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Subtitles/VobSub_2.23.exe). You'll know it's working when you see a little green arrow pop up in the Sys Tray as you start to play the movie. Make sure the subs are named exactly the same as the movie. If you have Movie.avi, then the subs are Movie.srt.

You didn't say to what format your brother ripped the DVD. I'm assuming it's an AVI.
