VMR9 vs. Overlay (black != black?)

Hi, I am not sure which renderer I should use:
VMR9 (no overlay)
or
Overlay

What I would like to use is VMR9 because then it is possible to watch videos at the TV and the normal screen at the same time (so I don't have to change "primary" every time).

But I have noticed the folling when using VMR9:
Black parts of videos don't seem to be displayed really black!

For example at the credits of a video with widescreen the black caused by the area of the screen where no video is played and the black of the video itself don't match.

You can see the effect when viewing the attached image in fullscreen.

In my opinion this is quite annoying since therefor the whole video is brighter than it should be.

Is there anything I could do if I want don't want to use overlay? (Not by changing the color of the video by using brightness/contrast controls of the player)

Did I get it right that YV12 is the problem?

And that there is nothing I can do but using overlay or color control?

It was best if there was a possibility to disable YV12 systemwide.

I can only disable YV12, but this has no effect

I think Blight means to unselect YV12 in ffdhshow configuration (start-->programs-->ffdshow--> configuaration) under "Output"

Try it...

but ffdshow has to be loaded as video decoder for your movies or you have to use the ffdshow raw video filter (which you can set after every other decoder (start-->programs-->ffdshow--> raw only filter configuaration)

Unselecting YV12 has no effect.

But then I tried to unselect YUY2 instead and then it worked.
