First I wanted to say thanks to Jdobbs and all the wonderful people in this forum for the great program and all the help and tips. I currently have a Philips DV724AT standalone that has problems with some DVD-RB backups. The video plays without a hitch but I get frequent (seemingly random) audio dropouts (through both optical and coax DD output). The backups play excellent through my software player on the comp with no dropouts. I've been looking to upgrade my player to a divx compatible one but I wanted to try to improve the DVD-RB compatibility as well. Does anyone here have any experience with this player and DVD-RB backups? Positive or negative I'd love to hear it. Or if you have any other recommendations for a standalone (I could do without the divx but I need MPEGISO/DVDMPEGISO playback). Thanks again for the wonderful forum and excellent program.

Try version 0.67. It has resolved the audio dropouts (at least in some cases).

To get version 0.67: Donate and became a VIP, or wait until the public release in December

Regarding the DVP-642...

I have the Philips DVP-642 DVD/DivX player and it works well. It will play most of the media I throw at it flawlessly. It's definitely a good deal at around $70.

The only complaint I have is the DVD component picture quality. It's not bad, but it's definitely not awesome. Just keep in mind that this isn't supposed to be a top-of-the-line DVD player.

There have been several threads on this same subject. It seems that the problem exist on the higher end players. Please state the name of the movie and what region it is. Also state at what point in the movie this is happening. You can identifiy the point in the movie by telling us at what time in the movie it happens E.G. 28min and 20sec into the movie or 1min 23secs into chapter 4 etc. This way we can do some testing on the movie ourselves. There also has been some discussion on some cheap media causing the problem and also pre-processing. So you may want to let us know what type of media you use and if you are doing any pre-processing.

@Moderator

Please change the name of this thread to "audio dropouts". Or something to that effect.

I have this player and it is excellent, especially for the price and DivX compatibility. I usually use Ridata or TDK -R media and the only time I experienced stuttering was with a movie that I pre-processed with DvdReMake. I've heard pre-processing can result in that so I've since stopped using DvdReMake in combination with DVD-RB. My PS2 often stutters on discs that the Phillips plays flawlessly.

Thanks for the great program jdobbs!

Just adding my 2¢ here(got bored...sue me) the Philips is amazing for 60 bucks I have just about everything I could ever want.

Philips DVP-642 / Sony DVP-NS500V / Toshiba SD3750

no audio problems with DVD-RB on any of my 3 players...thank you jdobbs
and I do a little preprocessing...

VOBBLANKER (get rid some of those lousy extras...)
DVDShrink (W/ NO COMPRESSION! to rid of the audio channels not needed and to remove the layer switch tag - which does fudge up my Toshiba some days..)
DVD-RB (of course it goes right here...actually I do have a slight problem with some HBO discs found I have to revert back to CCE SP 2.50 but no biggie)
MenuEdit (clean up the menue of course)
ImgTool Classic (to make the ISO again good times!)

EDIT - forgot MenuEdit
