The idea behind this thread is to compile a list of all the stand-alone players known to use Sigma chip-sets.

As you can see there's hardly any information here at all. But with your help... hopefully things will improve...

Please note:
The information listed below identifies the known "maximum" capabilities of the chip-set and has been compiled from various sources. It therefore does not necessarily mean that your player will be able to support all of them.

Here is what is known so far: -

Hi SMD-

The Momitsu V880 (http://www.momitsu.com/dvd_880.html) uses the Sigma Designs EM8500. The Momitsu V880N (http://www.momitsu.com/dvd_880n.html) uses the same chipset, but has additional features.

The Bravo D1 (http://www.vinc.us/product.asp?id=31&PID=21) uses the SD EM8500 chipset, as does the Bravo D2 (http://www.vinc.us/product.asp?ID=56&PID=21&SEQ=1) which is just a slightly improved version of the D1. The Bravo D3 (not out yet) will use the Sigma Designs EM8620L. I can't find anything on their site about the D3. But here's a little Article. (http://www.movietrack.net/articles/news/37.html)

Thanks very much...

I will add your information and links to my list :)

EDIT: When connected to a network, the spec of Momitsu V880N Player is very impressive. About as flexible as you can get!

I took the liberty of deleting the High-def chip-set/player information from this thread.

It is however now available in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84003).

as far as i know, the pinnacle showcenter uses this sigma chip:

"Pinnacle integrated into the ShowCenter the modern chip Sigma Design REALmagic EM 8551"

as stated before, i don't think it does a great job at playing xvid/divx files smoothly. 99% of my videos are 1.5 gigs of size streamed via ethernet. mostly choppy during high motion/pan scenes. need to find a better player...tried the dsm-320 from d-link and worse.

sounds like the Momitsu V880N might be a good replacement for my pinnacle showcenter media server.

has anyone had any problems playing xvid/divx files with any kind of choppiness? also, how does it handle xvid bandwidth peaks? what's the limit? manono, you happy with it? does it also have a 2 gig limitation? can it fast forward and rewind to certain points in the xvid/divx movie instead of doing a slow rewind or fast forward over the network?

and sorry if this is the not the thread to ask this, but i desperately need a better player to play all my xvid/divx files over the network. :)

There are around 20 threads over on the AVS Forum with something about the Momitsu V880N player.... Please take your pick: -

The Ellion DVX-520C dvd/divx player also uses the SIGMA DESIGNS REALmagic EM8500, verified 100% (I just took the lid off).

Used to be available from Scan UK.

Mine wont play QPEL and is a bit juddery when 2 BVOPs are used but found it to be the most compatible divx/xvid player so far, and I have access to quite a few. Plays Xvid's fine and smooth and fine with packed bitstream.

Hi iNFO-DVD,

I'm curious, have you had your Ellion DVX-520C player very long. Is there an build date stamped on it anywhere?

Yes, I'm curious why?

NOVEMBER 2003

NOVEMBER 2003 Because the EM5000 was superseded with the EM851x series.... Not that it can support Qpel either :( But it's pretty good with B-VOP.

I'm thinking of buying a Kiss DP-1500 (with the Sigma Designs EM8500 chipset), and if I understand correctly, the info in the startpost indicates that it is able to play XviD's with packed bitstreams? Could somebody please confirm this for me (most of my video files have packed bitstreams, and I REALLY don't want to be forced to use mpeg4modifier on all of them, that would take months...). Thanks in advance!

Thank you all for the overwhelming number of responses...
Guess I'll just have to wait and see then...

Thank you all for the overwhelming number of responses...Rather than resurrect a year-old thread with a relatively obscure title, you'd be better-off starting a "KISS DP-1500 play packed bitstream XviD's?" or something.

I have a Pinnacle w/EM8551 and it seems to actually PREFER packed bitstream XviDs. I dunno what chip the Kiss has but if the specs (for either the player or its chip) state "PB ok" then I would trust it.

In any case you'd do well to buy from a dealer where you can return it if not satisfied.
