View Full Version : Product Shoot-Out (Double Blind)

Does anyone know of a product review where double-blind viewing tests were done on the various one-click compression programs?

I'm not talking about bitrates, technical junk, but real-world viewing of resultant dvd9 to dvd5, with good equipment and, like the subject says, double-blind testing where neither the testor or the reviews know which product produced which output?

I've had (and used) most of the products mentioned here, and have used (with lots of problems) Big3/CCE for well over a year. But although there seems to be tons of (questionable) opinions, I wonder if some group or magazine has really done a decent heads-up viewing test of various source disks.

Just a thought, might have missed something important. Thanks.

well there was a test done on the dvdshrink forum that included instantcopy and dvd2one. you downloaded short clips and tried to guess which was which transcoder. it was limited to just clips from lord of the rings from memory. so not an extensive test as that would require different types of movies at different reduction amounts etc.

In the audio compression world we have http://www.pcabx.com/ for conducting your own double blind tests and some folks at www.hydrogenaudio.org stage intermittent double blind 'which sounds better' tests. Just doesn't seem to be that kind of diy interest with respect to video compression. Maybe because clips are orders of magnitude larger.
