DVD Burning Software

I am wanting to write a DVD burning app in C++ for my final year university project. I have no idea where to start though!
Can anyone suggest any books, topics etc where I might start?
I am hoping Lightning of DVDDecrypter fame may be wathcing and can steer me in the right direction.
I am a good programmer (got a 1st Class for 2nd year) but I don't know where to look!

Also, Look up a GPL program called CDRecord and the patch that's available on the net to make it burn DVDs. You can look thru that code, to see how it's done....

...I never like ASPI coding...

Also, set DVD Decrypter to debug mode. This way you'll see what commands it sends when burning a DVD. The code examples will then show you how to send those commands.

You should also download all MMC drafts for reference from http://www.t10.org/drafts.htm

If you're going for NT4/2K/XP only you should probably choose SPTI instead of ASPI.
