View Full Version : My MPEG-2 Codecs are really messed up

I use Windvd 4.0, but no mpeg2 will play, all my mpeg2 including dvd's say "invalid file format".
When I use Gspot's rendering tool it only renders the audio but not the video.
When I use graphedit to render a mpeg2 file, it renders the audio but the video is left blank.
When I manually add a filter in graphedit called "Intervideo video decoder" to the "MPEG-2 Splitter", it says the pin is not compatible, or in some cases it will connect the pins but the output of the decoder pin won't link to the video renderer.
Also my renderer is trying to overlay in YUY instead of RGB565.
Can anyone please help me out? I'm not sure if these are newbie questions but I sure feel like one when I can't even get basic DVD video to play.
Anyone know how to just refresh my codecs without reinstalling? Thanks!

Also, my MPEG-1 isn't too good either. Suddenly the image when full screen is choppy and extremely pixelated, and only playing at 5-6 fps instead of 29.97. I'm assuming that the major problem i'm having is with the directshow video renderer. Prob the overlay using YUY maybe?

Have you tried unregistering and re-registering hte DirectShow filters.
Hopefully this: http://www.microsoftusernetwork.com/mcored/knowledgebase/kb-directshowfix.htm
might be useful.

Thanks! I can get it to work win windvd 6's codecs finally, but the performance is really low. The video is not smooth at all and it's grainy in fullscreen. Choppy and only doing about 20fps if I look up actual statistics.
It was better in windvd 4's codec but i still can't get them to work (on the video side) when registered using the default mpeg-2 splitter.
I'm thinking more and more it's the actual video renderer itself. It's just bad. Any ideas?
My system is dual xeon 3.6 with 2gb ram, radeon 9700 pro video so it's not my machine.

Man was it annoying, so if anyone out there has really crappy codec performance, try moving this slider over AT LEAST A LITTLE LOL!!

LOL. I wonder how it changed to None. Glad you got it fixed. :)

Using Windows Server 2003, it puts it to off/none default on install and also after upgrading any video drivers. Off is default, whereas on XP max is default.
Uninstalled all my codecs and now windvd 6 seems to be happy and wmp is using their codecs just fine. Picture looks fine too.
