Software to normalize/amplify mp2?

Is there a software which is able to normalize/amplify mp2 audio (or audio of mpeg2 program streams) without reencoding?

I know that there's mp3gain for mp3, but I couldn't find anything for MPEG1 layer II audio. A cli program or batch support would be good.

I already did a fast search on the most popular sites(and google of course) and tried a few tools(besweet/toolame, audacity, cooledit, goldwave, etc.), but those are all doing a reencode.

ok, how to set the volume to a specific db value(e.g. ReplayGain)? I'm missing the ota.txt inside the zips to read about the overall tracks parameters.

Normalizing the audio is regulation of the volume to a spefic db level right? Does this process degrade the quality of your audio?

if mp2's global scalefactor or whatever it's called operates in the same way as mp3's, then you can't set exact dB values, but you'll be able to get close enough (+-1.5dB for mp3Gain, i think).

hmm... it'd be good if mp3Gain supported mp2. to be honest i haven't tried this program before (i do all my replaygaining through foobar2000 on playback, because RG'd tracks are too quiet on my piddly little portable).

I know that mp3gain works flawlessly, because it only a few bytes in each file. I also know that it isn't possible to set the exact db without reencoding, but thats ok for me.

Close enough to ReplayGain or any other value is enough, just like mp3gain does. I tried the command line you gave me on one mp2, I can't hear any difference. That's why I asked.

I also used foobar2000 to determine the value needed. Problem: I'm going to burn a few videos to dvd and they're all to quiet(about 75db). I converted one audio-track to mp3 and applied mp3gain, that did the trick good enough for testing purposes.

I sent a pm to DSPGuru for the parameters of besplit, maybe he can help.
