Before trying to "roll back" your firmware, try burning your project on a DVD+RW that you've used before -- just to see if it takes. It's entirely possible that you simply ran into a bad disk; even top-name brands have an occassional POS in the stack... just what happens in the world of mass-production.
Also, HOW did you wind up with a coaster? Did the burning process complete sucessfully, or did you have an error (which might indicate a bad disk)? What burning application are you using, and has it been updated? You said that you had "DVD freeze"-- was that during playback on a set-top? Something of that nature might even be fixed by something as mundaine as cleaning the laser lens or wiping off the disk surface (also keep in mind that fingerprints, hair, ect, will keep the media from burning properly in the first place if they were present during recording).
I'm asking all of this because -- while it IS sometimes possible to "roll back" your firmware -- it's seldom necessary, since so many other things could have gone wrong. So long as you're using a firmware that's approved for your burner, keeping the latest availible version ensures that you have the latest bug-fixes, program, and media compatibility. You'll lose all this by rolling back the firmware, only to *possibly* find out that this wasn't the cause of the problem... and have to flash the drive all over again. Better to eliminate everything else first.
