virtual vcr capture size help

Am new to this but i've read the faqs, etc, here and am having a problem capturing, using virtual vcr, in any size larger than 320x240. This is to burn to dvd from vhs.

Following the vvcr setup in the faq everything goes right until i set capture size in prop tab for video capture pin. I set to NTSC, YUY2, frame size 720x480. Vvcr will accept this when applying, but when capturing reverts to 320x240. Trying to change the frame size gives me "format not currently available" error. Have tried other colorspace/compression formats as recommended in faq to no avail.

Am i missing something simple here?

What capture card/drivers are you using? If you have a BT8x8 based card, you should try the btwincap drivers and see how things go:

You may want to look at your card's documentation and see if it lists what formats it can capture.

Am using a Kworld bt878 card-documentation is very slim-using their wdm drivers. Am able to capture at720x480 using their software package but interface sucks. Also able to capture 720x480 using iuvcr but am looking for something cheaper.

Tried the bitwincap driver but had problems with install. Will try again.

I also have one of those KWorld cards, and I use the btwincap drivers and I am able to capture at higher resolutions in virtualvcr/virtualdub, so I would try to install those drivers again and see what happens.

Hi

Have you filled the settings under "Video"? Have you defined your custom settings there and chequed "Use custom settings"?. I use custom settings up to 768x576 ( I live in PALland ) with no problem.

BTW, don't forget save your settings after finished.

The "secret" to successfully installing BTWincap drivers is to first have the tool remove all existing capture drivers ... and then, let your PC boot, find new hardware, and fail to find drivers to install.

Your capture hardware needs to be found but not installed, and should show up in the Device Manager under "Other Devices" -- the big yellow question mark icon.

thanks everyone. I was installing the bitwincap drivers wrong-the "other devices" was throwing me :). I've got the right resolution now, but colors are washed out. Just dl'd the utilites to try to correct this.
