Note: this is off my head cause i am currently at work...i'll follow-up when i get home (in 7 hours).

i'm trying to backup my UFC: Ultimate Knock-Outs DVD (and UFC Hits: Vol. 1 DVD) with DVD Decrypter, i'm getting the error/message stating that my DVD Drive Region is not set (true, it isn't set) so it'll use Brute Force to rip it...then it errors out (gets that Brute Force Cracking Failure error)...

so i've tried using DVDFab to rip it (since it can rip movies even though your Drive Region aint set), and works perfectly...

i've cleaned the disc and tried it again with DVD Decrypter, still errors...i've even tried it with DVDFab right after the error (without ejecting the disc) and it works

so how do i get DVD Decrypter to work it right?

thanks for any help

Post the log of it ripping when you get home.

Why havent you set your drives region? Having it not set is totally useless!

i thought it would only play that certain regions discs. That's reason i didnt set my drive region is because i have region 1 & 2 DVDs that i sometimes watch on my computer.

and as for the showing the log, i was trying to open my capture program (it couldn't - computer wouldn't open anything), i had to restart, tried it again, no error screen, found out that the drive region got set to Region 1 somehow....so i guess there's no point in this thread anymore....:(

oh well, DVD Decrypter works now

If you boot windows with a disc in the drive and the region isnt set, it'll set it to that region.

Same happens if you try and play a disc when the drives region isnt set.

By not setting the drives region, you cant perform the correct key exchange sequence - so players/ripper wont work at all - unless they 'brute force' the key (no legal/authorised player will do that)

At least by setting it to a region you'll be able to rip discs from that part of the world without resorting to 'brute force'.

As you've seen, brute force fails sometimes. Some programs will hide this fact and just use a key from another part of the disc. I prefer to NOT hide it and you're told about the problem.
New versions of DVD Decrypter will prompt you if there is the possibility to get a key from another part of the VTS set. This is the most reliable way of getting the correct key. Using the key from a different VTS set could mean you dont decrypt the files properly because they often change between VTS sets.
