Load the stream via MPC or RealPlayer with the http url. It will work.

gavo: you need a Real or Helix server to stream RealMedia. Is that what you are trying?

I am afraid I don't know much about running a streaming server. However, you can take a look at the Helix Server project: https://helix-server.helixcommunity.org/ There is a forum there to discuss Helix Server administration.
Maybe I will try it out on my Linux server at home one day. Could be interesting.

Depends on the container. RMVB can while AVI can't. MOV can.

This sounds like "play while downloading", which is a player feature, and not really streaming.

Oh, and this works just fine in the latest RealPlayer 10.5. It can "stream" (= play while downloading) RM files from my web server without any problems. I just open the http link to the file directly in the player. If I open the link by clicking on the link to the file in the browser, it may not work, since the browser may decide to download the file before passing it to the player. It neither works in Firefox nor IE, which both unfortunately want to download the entire file first. Silly... So just remember to open the http link to the RM file directly in RealPlayer (Copy the link into the File->Open dialog box)

This is what most people call "streaming", since in old times we had to download it fully, then watch.

Actually, it turns out RealPlayer has an option in Tools->Preferences->Playback Settings called "Instantly play web-page media links instead of downloading them". This is OFF by default (I don't know why). Turn this ON. This makes play-while-download clicks on RM files work in IE, but not Firefox. This is good to know!
