HDTVtoMPEG2 - d'oh!

Greetz to all :p
My first foray into hidef has left me with a 6GB .ts file, which I understand I need to run through HDTVtoMPEG2 to give me mpeg or vob files. I have downloaded the proggy and run the conversion with new file every set at the default 1024mb and again with it set at 4600mb for dvd-r, but only ended up with a 3KB file after 20 minutes wait each time!
I have tried altering the video and audio PID numbers (from 0x11 and 0x14 to 0x21 and 0x24) as suggested elsewhere and this didn't make a difference. Also the dropdown menu called Channel is blank and I am unable to type anything in it.
Have I done something stupid?

Anyone with any experience of using this prog, I'd be grateful if you could correct my error or point me in the direction of a guide to do so.

The latest version is 1.10.6 (doom9 and its "official" homepage have older versions):

This version includes preview window (to verify correct pid) and good editing tools. Also, you can verify file integrety and pid with DGMPGDec (updated dvd2avi).

I considered adding the latest version I found, but then I read at another forum (where the author of the new versions seems to hang out) that the latest version at the time of adding did have some bugs and it was suggested to use an older version instead, despite some lacking features. I'm also a bit concerned that there's no source for newer versions.. what happens if the person who took over the project disappears as well?
