View Full Version : Tangent D-400 firmware update

I own a Tangent D-400 which is a very nice DVD player that eats most of my divx/xvid movies (a lot better than the Kiss DP-1000 I previously owned).

My only problem with the D-400 is that it does't support subtitles. I have contacted Tangent (=Eltax) and asked whether an update is on its way and the answer I got was no.

I'm becoming incresingly annoyed with the lack of subtitle support and I'm seriously considering replacing the D-400 with a dvd player with subtitle support.

I have read somewhere that it is actually possible to use a firmware update even though it has been made for another dvd player, as long as the chipsets are identical. As far as I know the chipset in D-400 is a MT1389DE, but I'm not sure as Tangent has placed a cooler on top of the chip :)

Does anyone has experience with updating a D-400 or another DE-based dvd with a "generic" firmware update which add subtitle support?

Thanx :p
