Hi there,
I've spent the last month learning Scenarist inside and out and I think I'm pretty advanced with it (finally!)
What brings me here is what to do about this darned root menu button. It seems there's no simple way to control its function...
Say I have a chapter menu and main movie in the same VTS.
The chapter menu is three pages.
Currently, I have the chapter menu directed to a "dummy" PGC first, this is to set GPRMs and give functionality to the resume button if the movie isn't played out.
However, what is puzzling me is how I can re-direct the user back to the correct chapter menu that he started out from when he presses the root menu button from the movie.
EG: User goes to third page of chapter menu and selects chapter 11.
He watches for a few moments and pushes "root/menu"
I want him to go back to that third page of the chapter menu and have the same button highlighted. At the moment, it goes back to the first.
I know this can be done, because I've seen it in several titles. eg. Dawn of the Dead.
Anyone help?! The only way I can possibly think of doing it is perhaps initially directing the chapter button to multiple dummy PGCs and set a GPRM up before playing the movie. In the "pre" commands of the root chapter menu, translate the GPRM to redirect the user to the correct page based on the value of that GPRM.
This is quite long-winded though, is there an easier way?
Cheers.
PS. Also, is there a way to prohibit the use of system buttons like "root" (besides turning the menuID off for that VTS)?
