windows media player problem

if i watch some movies with the windows media player that i think are coded with xvid it starts heavily lagging after 2 minutes or something i downloaded the newest update for this but nothing happened.
so i tryed vlc but @ watching some movies i have no sound or no picture....
and winamp i dont want to use because i use it for mp3 and the big window would disturbe me
movies... the movies i watch are free gaming movies by the way about cs or wc3...
but knows somebody maybe why its lagging?
or knows somebody an other good player that i could use instead...
the problem wasnt there before it just came one day...

i think the problem starts as i installed ffdshow because i had a problem xvid and someone told me that i should install it and it worked .. so i dont want to deinstall it now

Hmm, try RadLight. The Oldskool MOD is pretty simple to use. It's playback engine usually delivers while other players fail, especially on a codec-bloated systems.

P.S There are many players you could use, it's just a matter of taste.

Do you have a low spec pc? I have a pii 333mhz and when if I make backups with more than one cd, which have high bitrates, the audio lags behind the video. I remember this happened a lot with 21 grams, which took over 24 hours to bak up, and I was devistated. But... I downloaded ffdshow, which works great on slower pcs. With this codec, when the audio starts lagging, the video gets speeded up so it matches the audio, and then it plays back at regular speed again, perfectly in sync. So basically give ffdshow a try.

no i have a amd xp 2100++ with geforece fx 5700 ultra and 768 ddr ram o_O
btw radlight doesnt work good i can see pictures that move good so no lagging but i get no sound O_o
maybe ive done something wrong but theres no sound at all @ radlight for me !
hmm and mplayer works but its not the best because u havent got a tray bar to control the point of viewing only can jump about 10 seconds ;\

RIGHT ARROW seek +10
LEFT ARROW seek -10
DOWN ARROW seek -60
UP ARROW seek +60
PGUP seek 600
PGDWN seek -600

open file INPUT.CONF in mplayer dir and CHANGE/ADD keys if you want

start playback at position from command line:
-sb <byte position> (see -ss option too)
Seek to byte position. Useful for playback from CD-ROM images / .
VOB files with junk at the beginning.

-ss <time> (see -sb option too)
Seek to given time position.
EXAMPLE:
-ss 56
seeks to 56 seconds
ss 01:10:00
seeks to 1 hour 10 min

ye i think 10 seconds is too much ;\
and i know that i can edit keys but i miss a real traybar :(
iu think there some better progs i hope

i dont know .. . there are lot of players around... i wrote about mplayer caouse it doesnt require codec/filter installation ...

zoom player has great flexibility configuring filters/codecs to use with media files independent of the system ... (i think this is only for pro version - shareware)
mediaplayer classic also has some advantages ... (some built in filters/codecs - but some are not recommended to use) plus some configuration flexibility (blocking or prefering codecs/filters)
bsplayer - plain direct show media player (now has a pro version with tv option)
radlight, aiwplayer, viplayer ...

i tried all them when i was finding out my default media player ... and now i use mplayer and bsplayer - caouse i have low end computer (700mhz duron and winme) - these players gave me best performance ... of courese ffdshow as a mpeg4 decoder (both players use it - bsplayer use dshow and mplayer ffmpeg which is the same i think)

mplayer classic has the best seek options i think...

thanks but all the other players also have problems with the xvid files and start lagging...
so it has to be a problem with the codecs
i deinstalled all the codecs i have and reinstall...#
okay the problem was as i suspected the ffdshow and as i deinstalled it it all worked and if i need it again for other types of movies i wont install it with xvid support !
