View Full Version : Define first play with Ifoedit

Hi all!

I'm trying to reauthor some DVD5 DVD's. All i want to do is to define as first play the movie.
And also if possible define which audio stream and subtitles to start the movie with.
I can do this with DVDmaestro, but i think it can possibly be made with ifoedit with much less work.

Hope you can help me here.

If none of the DVD player's General Purpose Registers (Gprms) need to be set, then in the First Play PGC, all you need to do is change the first command to Jump to Title 1 (or whatever title holds the movie).

However, life is not always like that. Many times some of the 15 gprms need setting, especially, if you wish to select something like a particular audio or sub-title stream.

Not setting these registers will usually take the default audio/subbie stream, but even if they are the ones you want, there is no guarantee that it will work. Sometimes, a DVD goes few quite a few machinations before it actually gets to playing the flick.

Nevertheless, you could try and see if this works. Test in a software player first, then burn initially onto a RW to minimise coasters.

Good luck

One other thing - nothing against IfoEdit, but it is not for the new IMHO. I find PgcEdit a lot better and user friendlier.

Get it from here (http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/index.html)

First of all thanks for your answers.
Unfortunately seems I've done a mistake.
I've decripted the DVD's, but maintaing only the movie VTS files, so i don't even have the VIDEO_VTS.IFO, where i could find the FIRST_Play PGC.
I think I'll have to reauthor the dvd's using dvdmaestro or scenarist.

Thanks for all anyway.

Just decrypyt them again using the "file all" command in DVD Decrypter.

Alternatively, if you have no IFOs, use IFOEdits "Create IFOs" function to build a working set of IFOs.

I've asked pretty much the same question here: Autoplay main title with preset audio stream (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84860)...

Right now, there seems to be these solutions:
Re-author the DVD with the main movie only and use 2COOL's guide on how to set the default subtitle and audio stream, if the desired audio/subtitles aren't the first streams.
Blank all warnings, studio logos, trailers etc. using VobBlanker and/or PgcEdit and use 2COOL's guide on how to "auto-click" language and aspect ratio menus, to bypass all menus before the main menu and "auto-select" the desired audio and subitles in the main menu, and finally "auto-click" the "play movie" button in the main menu!
Use the Jump_TT command to jump straight to the main movie and cross your fingers that no registers are used!
(Wait for the author of PgcEdit to implement the tracking feature mentioned by jeanl in the above post!)
@cons

The next version of PgcEdit will have this trace function AFAIK.

Interestingly, in a reauthored DVD Shrink disk, no registers are set at all - the First Play PGC is simply Jump to Title 1, which plays and exits (or if there are more titles, goes on to the next one in line).

But, if there are more than one audio/subbie stream, and the default isn't what is wanted, then some work needs to be done.

I don't the option "Create Ifo's" available.

# Re-author the DVD with the main movie only and use 2COOL's guide on how to set the default subtitle and audio stream, if the desired audio/subtitles aren't the first streams.

Isn't it the same as reauthoring the DVD with DVDmaestro or Scenarist?

Sort of what's described in this guide by 2COOL: http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/subtitles/subtitles_on_default_pgcedit.htm - With the addition of selecting the audio stream using the SetSTN command, which should be easy to do in PgcEdit while you're adding the subtitle selection part... Can anyone confirm this?

Yes you're right, the SetSTN command in the VTST will do the trick.

When r0lZ is ready to release the version of PgcEdit with the Trace function, I'll have a guide ready to do exactly what you mention (go straight to the movie). I think r0lZ is getting there fast ;)

@insolit

To use Create IFOs in IfoEdit just have the VOBs from the VTS in question in a folder. Open IfoEdit and hit Create IFOs. It will lead you through the process.

Good luck.

@jeanl

Looks like we'll have to wait for 0.3.9 or even 0.4 for the trace. But, won't it be fantastic?

Insolit, r0lZ just released PgcEdit version 0.4, which now has the trace function! This makes it much easier to modify your DVD to jump straight to the movie. See this thread for the new version, and a guide I wrote for doing just that...

I'm not being able to put the DVD working as i want pretend.
I can jump correctly into the movie but i can't select the subs and audio i want.
Should that shown in the picture be enough?

Insolit,

2 problems:
- You set the subtitles and audio after you jump to your title! That will never work.
- You can't use the SetSTN command in the first-play PGC. You can only use it in the VTS or VTSM domain, I think.

Your answer is: If you were able to follow the guide to jump to the movie, you just need to insert/modify the SetSTN command right above the "break" command in the pre-command area of your title. There should already be one, in fact, so all you need to do is modify it to select the audio and subs you want!

Unfortunately it works in media player classic, but totally b0rks in my dvd player...

It's not even detected as DVD-Video.

By the way, i left not on purpose a folder that was the backup created by the PGCedit in the folder VIDEO_TS, could that be the reason for the DVD not to be recognized?

Yes, this could be a problem as it will take up place on the disk where the set top box expects to find other things. Be careful about this. There may also be files in there that overwrite important IFO or BUP files or just take up sectors where the set top is expecting to find something else.

If you use Nero, I find selecting the PgcEdit backup folder, then "inverting the selection" selects the files to be copied perfectly.

Well i found the problem. A very stupid one to be honest...
I forgot to create the folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS as i thought i had...
The DVD works but it doesn't allow me to change the audio track... i must have forgotten to remove some user prohibition.
Or is there something special i need to do.

As pre-commands i only have one in First Play PGC to jump to title1 and another in VTST1 to defaultly select an audio and subtitle track.

I have a new question for you!

Could you example me a way of, in case for example english audio is selected, portuguese subtitles are automatically turned on and also, if portuguese audio is selected, then english subs are automatically turned on.
Is there a way of making this, that enables me of just switching the audio and automatically change the subs?

To automatically turn on English with Portuguese subtitles:

First find out what stream numbers correspond to what streams in the movie. IfoEdit or PgcEdit can tell you this in a flash.

Now, assume that your English audio is Stream 0 and Portuguese subbies are subpic stream 5.

Then you need to insert a command in your movie PGC's pre-commands as follows (make sure you add this as the last command of the movie's pre-commands):
[51 00 00 80 C5 00 00 00] [nn] (SetSTN) Set Audio stream = 0 ; Set Sub-picture stream = 5, on The "nn" will be the last pre-command number of the movie's PGC.

You will now need to change any "breaks" in this PGC's pre-commands (including conditional breaks) to "GOTO line nn".

See a good guide by 2COOL at http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/subtitles/subtitles_on_default_pgcedit.htm

As to setting English sub-titles when you select Portguguese, you will probably need to re-program the menu button in the audio menu so that it not only selects the Portuguese audio but also selects AND TURNS ON the English subtitles. This will require Menuedit or the like. Do you have that software?

Blutach,
Do you know if it's possible to do what you describe if the user uses the remote control? In other words, make it so the remote does 2 things in one shot? I didn't think it was possible, but my knowledge is incomplete at best!

@jean - I would think it's only possible if you reprogram the relevant menu button. But that's the long way round, isn't it. It isn't all that hard to hit the audio button and the sub-titles button, is it?

On thinking about this further, I wonder whether it could be designed to use, say, the title (or return) button on the remote to "toggle" things using the methodology proposed by 2COOL in his Chapter skipping guides on DVD Shrink reauthored DVDs (http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/previous_chapter/intro.htm) - that is, by using dummy PGCs, defining them as title menus and only having the audio/sub-title commands in them (with a free GPRM used to keep a note of the "state" of the audio/subpic streams?

I think i can't do what i pretend then.
What i meant was to change automatically to portuguese subs when english audio is selected but by the remote.

I don't like menu's in my DVD, it's just the movie with the audio and subs i want :)

Anyway thanks a lot blutach and all that kept on helping.

@blutach,
I don't know for sure, but I am guessing that the remote buttons do not rely on any DVD navigation to change the audio/sub streams. I believe it's all done internally in the DVD player: you can change what you want in the DVD menus, it will not change the way the remote works (I'm guessing here, but I simply can't see how a DVD player could possibly go to the sub menu, execute commands to change the subs, all the while playing the video, with a push of a button!). I think the player is doing something much simpler than that: cycling through the available streams...

@jeanl

I think you're right re the audio and subtitle buttons on the remote. But what if we created a menu, called it a title menu and used the title menu button on the remote instead? In this menu would basically be the 2 different SetSTN commands (each setting both audio and subtitle stream) and an unused GPRM as a "flag"? Then might he not be able to use the Title button on his remote to switch streams and subtitles?

Just a thought.

AH! YOu sneaky bastard! ;)
Yes, I see what you mean, you'd make the menu resume right away, nothing displayed. YOu could even keep the current stream choice in a GPRM so you'd cycle through the available options! That's quite creative!!!!
