Though looking through the senate webpage I cannot confirm that, and I haven't found any other news item via google that would lead to the same conclusion. Though the article was quite clear and it would be hard to mess that up since they go on about how we cannot expect a relaunch of the Induce Act any time soon.. so who's right.. is Hatch still listed as Senator as the current legislative period hasn't come to an end?

Hatch joined the US Senate in 1976. IIRC senators serve 6 year terms, which means he does not come up for reelection again until 2006.

Perhaps they were thinking of committee chairmanships? Hatch chairs the Judiciary Committe, and he is, according to CNN, "barred from another term as chairman because of term limits...Arlen Specter is in line to replace him"
