Can not import certain .mp3 files

In a bin (within Project), I tried to import a .mp3 song file and I get the following:



Unable to open that file.
File is an unsupported type.
File path: C:\Documents\songtitle.mp3



I am using Win XP Pro with Adobe Premiere 6.0.
Has this ever happen to you and how do I fix it? The weird thing is that I can import other .mp3s without a problem, only some don't work.

Maybe there's something special with the format - a weird bitrate, maybe? Or VBR, mono, or some combination of these which Premiere doesn't recognize. I'm just guessing, though.

You can use a sound editor program to try to open the mp3 and save them out to uncompressed wav. Then open the wav in Premiere.

I think Premiere 6.x can't handle VBR mp3 (and there's more and more VBR encoding around thanks to the great lame --alt-preset)

You can use a sound editor program to try to open the mp3 and save them out to uncompressed wav. Then open the wav in Premiere.You can just use Winamp: set the "Output Plugin" to "Nullsoft Disk Writer Plug-In" and then play the track as usual (don't forget to change the Output plugin back to Direct Sound afterwards).
The best (in my opinion) and probably even easier way would be BeSweet(GUI). You have to configure the right settings once, then afterwards all you need to do is open a track and press the ".mp3 to .wav" button.
