I am trying to back-up one of my dvds and I keep getting the following error:

Ripping: G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_1.vob
Ripping: G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_2.vob
Ripping: G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_3.vob
Ripping: G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_4.vob
Ripping: G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_5.vob
Ripping: G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_6.vob
Ripping: G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_7.vob
Error reading, switching to slow reading and retrying!
You may get unexplainable/unpredictable errors!
G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_7.vob readerror at position: 458231808
G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_7.vob read error at position: 458231809
G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_7.vob read error at position: 458231810

the error continues on until I close out dvd2svcd. I have backed up numerous dvd's and only two have given me this error so far. Is the dvd copyright protected? damaged? I use the basic settings dvd2svcd starts with. The error occurs the same place on different copies of the dvd, the one I bought and the one my neighbor bought. Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

Try ripping it with dvd-decrypter.

If dvd-decrypter can't read it, then perhaps the disc has intentional bad sectors. In the decrypting forum, there is advice on what to do if dvd-decrypter encounters errors (ignore read errors), so have a look there.

In order to prevent potential sync problems (caused by multi-PGC titles), when processing with D2S, it is recommended to still rip the already dvd-decrypted files with D2S's internal routines.

Regards,
Bob
