Hey guys
I tried to backup a dvd using DVD Shrink and that worked fine, but I wasn't satisfied with the quality. So I figured I would try using Rebuilder with CCE to get better quality. I used CCE 2.5.
Anyways, the encoding and rebuilding goes fine and when I record the ISO on dvd my computer dvd player can play the movie, but when I try to use standalone players (sony and jvc) I get errors saying that they cannot read the disc.
I am a bit confused because if the computer dvd player can play the disc I'm pretty sure the structure of the final ISO was correct and all IFO files should be right as well. So thats why I asking for some help. Has anyone ever had this problem and if so what am I doing wrong.

Note: I used vob blanker to blank out some unwanted VOBs such as extras, and using DVD Shrink after it all worked fine, but not with Rebuilder.

Thanks for any help on this.

hi luthan and welcome to the forum,

unfortunately the dvd drives on computers can be a lot more forgiving of any errors than a standalone.

the problem could be a result of a number of things:

1. incompatible media with your standalone
check yourplayer/media combination on http://www.videohelp.com/

2. problems with the iso creation/burning method (youhave not provided any details of how you burnt the disc)

3. poor quality media

4. burning at max speed - try reducing to a slower speed.

5. using vob blanker prior to dvd-rb. although your process worked with dvd shrink, dvd-rb demuxes your .vob files into elementary streams, re-encodes the video, then remuxes and updates the .ifo/.bup files. it is therefore a lot more sensitive to any changes you make to the structure.

good luck

i used ultraiso to make the image after rebuilder spit the files out, then burned that image with decrypter, and also tried burning the image with nero.

I think number 5 is something that could be causing my problem. I am pretty sure all other 4 dont effect my DVD player.
My question then is how do i get rid of some extras that take up alot of room without using VOBlanker. I tried looking into IFOedit but it seems that all it did was edit ifo file and not the actual media file, in other words im confused about how it works, and the tutorials didnt really help.
