use f.e. the VideoLan Player - he will decode (for listening on your PC) the sound you encoded on DTS. Use for your home DVD player a digital connection no 2 chinch cabels for analog right/left
This question was discussed a 100 times - so use :search: and :readfaq: for further info.
Finally: do not encode MP3 files to DTS because itīs absolutely senseless

Be Careful !!! With the lastest release ( 0.8.0), dts decoding has been remove.
NOTE: This release doesn't include DTS audio decoding support. DTS Inc. claims that distributing this software with DTS decoding capabilities is a violation of their patent EP 864 146. At DTS Inc. request, we decided, as a precautionary measure, to provisionally suspend the distribution of VLC with DTS decoding capabilities while reviewing DTS Inc. claim. This is not an acknowledgement of the validity of the claim.
