Strange white lines appear in my captures

I have the following problems. IN all my captues there are white (sometimes even green or black) horizontal lines. It looks like when
you play a tape and there is dirt in your VCR.

First I thought that's what my problem was, but it's not.

I hooked up a DVD player and captured a few minutes of footage and still the same lines appear.

I even tried to capture using 2 different cards at the same time (Cards are BT878 AND Phillips). The lines would be in both captures but in differnt places.

Another strange thing that I noticed is that if I capture plain blue VCR screen then thre are no lines at all. It seems like the more activity there is the more the lines are likely to show.

What software do you capture with?
Do you by any chance capture in RGB24 color space?
When I used a capture card with BT878-chip (I have an ADVC-100 since over a year ago and have abandoned "Tv cards") and the capturing software I had set the capture to be done in RGB24 instead of YUY2, I got those lines too.

Huffyuv v2.1.1 - CCESP Patch v0.2.5
YUY2 Color Space

Cards are BT878 and Philips SAA7134

I will try today with another card CX23881 ans report the results.

I'm starting to think that thare may be something wrong with my computer

I have this problem with strange lines too and I think this could be somehow related to VIA southbridge :confused:. My capture card is AverTV Studio 203 and motherboard - MSI KT266 Pro2 RU.

I had similar problems with an old VIA KT133-Mainboard(686A southbridge). They turned out to be related to severe PCI-latency issues caused by USB-devices with permanent traffic(gamepads or other analog input-devices).

After changing to KT266, they where gone. Have you tried changing PCI-related BIOS settings?

I'll post mine as soon as I'll get back to my home-pc.

I think i solved the problem (at least partially).
I took out the FlyVideo card (SAA7134 chip) and all the other cards work fine now.
I have tested both BT878 and CX23883.

The problem is that I do want to use a SAA7134 chip based card so I just ordered ASUS card and I'm hoping that this one will work fine. If not I'm not sure what I'm gonna do.

What kind of PCI-related BIOS settings did you have in mind ? And how should I change them ?

thanks, but unfortunately none of these settings can be accessed from my BIOS setup. Do you know if there is a way to access this via Windows XP interface

I have this same problem, but I've found a solution for it. I just reduce the speed of the mainboard (and CPU) by 20% and the white lines disappear. You should try that too.

OK, how do you do this ? Where is this setting ?

Usually you can do that in the BIOS, under the Frequency settings tab. Just be carefull, do not overclock your CPU when you want to restore the initial settings. If you are new to stuff like that, you should write down the initial state before you change anything. And to slow down the CPU you will need to decrease the mainboard frequency.

Sorry for my poor english

I had the same problem on my mobo EPIA M10000. I have a HAUPPAUGE WINTV card and capture with VIRTUALVCR. I solved le problem by changing the PCI latency for the TV card from 20h to 80h. I use the utility WPCREDIT for do so ( you must google for info ) before begining capture. Also you can use WPCRESET if wish made le change on boot.
