mpeg2 to dvd-player friendly

ive created a nice 4GB (exactcly) mpeg2 program stream that meets dvd specs, i made it with tmpgenc. i really like the quality of this encoder and would like to make dvds out of the program streams. i cant seem to find any software that will take this file and without reencoding it, create the ifo ect files so it will play in a dvd player. can anyone recommend some software to do this? preferably open source or freeware?

Try TMPGEnc DVD Author. Also, I don't know which software you tried, but some softwares have an option to always reencode DVD compliant material. By turning it off the software won't reencode anymore.

IfoEdit is a free solution for DVD authoring. It does not create menus but it does allow you to insert chapters.

Version 0.96 should only be used to author if your video is PAL because there is a bug with NTSC authoring. But the good news is that Derrow has indicated that NTSC authoring will be fixed in the next version of IfoEdit, which will be released soon.


If you use Linux there is a free command line program called dvdauthor. I believe that there is a windows port of it and it seems that there is an add-on GUI.

dvdauthorgui, gui for dvdauthor etc. there are a few around and a little bit of searching will find they have been mentioned on this very forum before. :)
