View Full Version : Van Helsing causing DIF to freeze?

Anyone able to back this R1 movie up yet? It doesn't seem like DIF can handle it. When I tried it, it demuxes both pgcs in the main movie VTS (they are both 2:11:00 long). Obviously, both versions are not needed but for some reason DIF demuxed both even though pgc1 was not checked and pgc2 was. Any ideas?

I also found that DIF seemed to crash a lot when trying to back this movie up. Sometimes when I tried DIF it would work, sometimes it would just freeze. I did unselect all the Audio tracks except the first one and I tried keeping all the subs and deselecting all the subs. Wierd.

Title, fixed.

the only time dif4u does that (demux both long pgcs) is when there is ilvu (this is by design).. in that case you would want to manually select vobid demux

Can you please change the title to something more descriptive?

See forum rules. (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm)

I checked not only the main movie ifo but all the ifos and found no ilvu at all in any of them. Any other ideas?

i'll be able to give it a try in prolly by the weekend if you can wait.. can you paste the main movie ifo information from ifoedit main screen just so we can take a look and see if there is anything peculiar in the mean while?

I got it to work. Here is what I did. I had to turn off the 'Select and uncheck duplicate pgcs' in the DIF options. Once I did this, I manually selected PGC 1 in VTS1 and everything worked fine. DIF, Batch and scenaid then did their jobs and it worked. Not sure why I had to turn that option off but it did work.

my personal theory on this (and trust me ... its only a wild guess) is that when DIF4U selected pgc_2 it included a unknown substream (labelled ??? in DIF4U and 'unknown' in Ifoedit) and this substream caused issues with the demux.
by manually selecting pgc_1, this substream was not referenced and so the demux continued as it should.
so .. may be an issue with vsrip/vsconv? or a poorly authored dvd?
as i do not have this version of the dvd (r1) it makes testing kind of hard (btw this information was learnt only through discussing this problem with hoops in irc)
anyway, trahald, might give you something to look for when testing.
good luck

I had no problems backing up Van Helsing with doitfast4u with the uncheck duplicate pgc checked. The only problem that i'm having is backing up envy which has both versions on the dvd.

Well.. I tried the movie.. it only selected 1 pgc.. however, When it picks the 2nd pgc.. dif4u will crash .. when the top one is selected it works fine

On quick inspection i see nothing in the ifo that would cause it..

Trahald, that makes me feel better. At least I know I'm not losing it. Wierd how when you select pgc1 is works but if you select pgc2 is causing DIF to freeze.

Mine is the total opposite. I checked pgc 2 and had no problems with it.
