Extracting Audio From Type-1 Avi

At first I tried to convert my type-1 avi captured from a dv camera to a type-2 avi, but the audio was nothing but a hiss after a certain point in the file, So I've scrapped the idea of making it into a type-2, and now I just want to excact the audio as a wav file.

The original program I used to extract the dv file won't let me go back and extract the audio separately, and I tried to use Besweet, but without any success (I may be doing it wrong, but I've used Besweet before with much success).

Any and All help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Which software did you use to convert to type-2? Maybe it can't go beyond the 4 GB limit.

To extract the audio to a WAV file, you should try your video editing software. Most programs have a function which allows to extract to WAV. I use Ulead MediaStudio Pro, for instance.

Yes, the program I used can't go beyond the 4 GB limit, and I couldn't find any that could. I used Sonic MyDVD for the extraction (yes I know how cruddy of a program it is), and it doesn't have an option to save as wav... I may have to download ulead, unless anyone knows of an easier way, or ir someone knows of a program that doesn't have that 4GB limit when going from type-1 to type-2.

I have not tried this, but there is a free type 1 to type 2 converter at http://www.jhepple.com/dv1to2.htm

EDIT: If you have XP and a DV codec installed I think you can capture as type 1 or 2, edit, and export DV video using Windows Movie Maker 2 (also free). I haven't tried this in a while, so I could be wrong.

I would recommend the freebee Ulead DV Converter if you want to convert Type I to Type II:

BTW - Type I DV files can now be opened up with audio in VDub 1.6:

To extract the (full PCM) WAV in VDub:

Go to Audio, open Full Processing Mode and then Compression. Select PCM No Compression. Then Go to File and select Save WAV.
