I have made several backups of my DVD's using AutoGK and it's partner DVD extractor or decriptor, I forget the name, mostly according to the tutorial that is included with them - I've experimented VERY little with adjusting the settings and I don't understand much of the terminology besides. The resulting .avi files come out fine, but when I play them on my television's DVD-MP3-DiVx player, they can only be played straight through, I cannot fast forward or rewind; also the original chapter markers appear to be lost.

I have other DiVx files that when played on the player, are able to be FF'ed and rewound. There are no apparent chapter markers, but that's generally fine with me - it is very inconvenient not to be able to seek.

? Using the AutoGK and DVD decriptor, is there a setting I can change to allow the resulting .avi file to be fast forwarded and rewound?

? Does this have something to do with index frames?

? Is it possible to preserve the chapter markers?

Hello and welcome to the forum-

This must be some kind of limitation of your player. With my AutoGK AVIs when played in my DVD/MPEG-4 player, I can search to a specific point in the AVI, and I can do some sort of advance/rewind where it changes position about a minute or so from the current position.

Are your AutoGK files XviD, by chance, and your others DivX files, by chance? If so, perhaps your player doesn't fully support XviD. Just a guess, though.

As far as I know, the AVIs generated by AutoGK are just like those generated by other methods, except, often, better.

Does your player use the ESS Vibrato chipset, by chance? And if so, did you enable the ESS chipset Option when installing AutoGK?
