Making a Slideshow Guide

The reason I came up with this guide was that I had to add a slideshow to my cousins wedding video. So I thought I would share this with everyone.

Tools used: DVDShrink, VobBlanker, Pgcedit, Ifoedit and blankVob.

This guide involves A LOT OF WORK but it uses all free tools.
The guide can be split in two parts. One that makes a slideshow with multiple VTS. (If you only want to make a DVD slideshow)
The second just makes one VTS. (So you can add it to an existing DVD)

1. Put all you photos you want in a folder. Try to rename them so they will be sorted in the order you want them to be displayed.

CONVERTING PHOTOS TO VOBS

2a. With DVDShrink open any DVD. Now click the re-author button and drag any title into the DVD Structure area. NOTE: the video attribute of the title you drag will be the attribute DVD Shrink converts the picture to. (If you drag a widescreen title 1:16 the pictures will all be widescreen. The same goes for 4:3)
2b. now right click the title you just dragged and select the Set Start/End Frames… Slid the End Frame slider all the way to the beginning so the total duration will be something like. 00h00m00s 12 frames. Press OK
2c. Click the Compression Setting tab and select Still Image. Then browse for you first photo you want to display.
2d. Right Click on the title in the DVD Structure area (the one you dragged in step 2a.) copy and then paste. Now changes the image and repeat steps 2c and 2d until all your photos are done. NOTE: you can only use 99 pictures
2e. Backup your new DVD. For further reference I saved it in “DVD Photos” folder.

If you only want to make a DVD slideshow with multiple VTS continue to step 6. If you want all the photos in one title then continue to step 3.

MERGING ALL TITLES TO ONE VTS

3a. Create a folder call “work”. Open up blankVob and select your TV-system, Resolution and Aspect Ratio you want (leave mode to simple). Set the Vob_ids from 1 to 1 and the Cell_ids from 1 to the number of photos you have. Tip. Look at the number of VST in the DVD Photo folder.
E.g. If you have up to VTS_09_1.VOB then you set the Cell_ids from 1 to 9.
Leave the Vob_ids from 1 to 1.
3b. set the output folder to save in the “work” folder and then click Generate.

4. Open Ifoedit and click on Create IFOs. Under the VTS_01_0.IFO PGC options have Create 1 PGC only checked and VTS_01_0.IFO Chapter options have Create Chapter for each Cell checked. Now under the Output Stream open the vob we created with blankVob in the “work” folder. Check same as source and press OK.
Now highlight an IFO and do a Get VTS sectors.

5a. open VobBlanker 1.5.0.7 or up and open the IFOs you just create in the “work” folder as your input folder. And create another folder call “final” as your output folder.
5b. check Fix elapsed time when replacing cells. Highlight VST_01_*.VOB under the Title Set window. Under the PGCs in Selected Title Set window double click on 01 Entry and Cell List window should pop up.

5c. In the Cell List window you should see the number of cells you created in step 3a. ( In the example it was 9) Now highlight the first cell and hit Replace. Navigate to back your “DVD Photos” folder. Select VTS_01_1.VOB and open.
Now highlight #2 and replace with VTS_01_2.VOB and #3 replaced with VTS_01_3.VOB and so on with all the other cell #s.

5d. After replacing all the cells click Apply and then PROCESS!!

6a. With PgcEdit open your DVD (if you jumped here from step 2e it would be “DVD Photos” folder. If you continued for step 5d it would be “final” folder.)

CHANGING CELL TIMES

6b. double click on VTST 1,1 TTN1 and the PGC Editor should pop up. Now change all the Still Time form 1 to 254 and 255 will loop forever (or until you press next button on the remote) for reference read 2Cools guide here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?postid=432610#post432610)
NOTE: if you opened the “DVD Photos” folder you have only one cell in the VTST and you would have to double click on all of the VTST 2, 3, 4… to change the cell times. If you opened the “final” folder you would only have one VTST with multiply cells that you have to edit.

6c. Press OK in the PGC Editor when all cell times have been changed. Now save your DVD File>Save DVD (or Ctrl S)

7. You’re done.

I'm looking at using 3 freeware tools.

In a nutshell

1. Get your bmps, jpgs, and pngs.

2. Use BlankVOB to create a multicell VOB ( you must use different VOB-Ids only. Don't touch the Cell-ids fields)

3. Use Ifoedit to create new IFOs and select "Create a new PGC for each new VOB-ID". Don't forget to get vts sectors.

4. If you want to do another set of blankVOBs then repeat 2 & 3 in another directory. especially if you have a different aspect ratio for certain images.

5. Use DVD Shrink 3.2 to re-author. Drag multiple titles from different folders (step 4) if you want.
Note: If DVD Shrink gives up an analysis error on your VOB, you may have to do a mock strip (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84097). It shouldn't take too long as they are just blanks.

Convert all Titles to still images using your chosen images.

6. When done, change still times. It's way easier in PgcEdit but you can also do it in IfoEdit.

I think it'll work as I haven't done it yet. It looks logical.

dvd shrink doesn't seem to work with me. everytime i sellect Still Image it just jumps back to automatic. must be something in the settings but i can't find anything.

I did have a problem like that when I was using a DVD files under 4.7 GB and it was stopping me from doing any still images. :( Don't know what happen from that point but I can now use still images in re-authoring and full disc mode with DVD files under 4.7GB. Weird. :confused:

Anywhere I can get step by step instructions for this. I am using ifoedit 0.96. I open the vob file created in step 2. From vob_extras, I select 'Create new IFO'. I do not see any option to get vts sectors. For the file name, I use the name of the vob with the .ifo extension and keep in the same directory. I leave all other settings to defaults and hit ok. It does its thing and I get a message 'Finished Correcting VOBU pointers'. I hit ok, and get a message 'Tere is no TimeMap table! Skipping TMap table creation'. I hit ok, and the application crashes.

I tried selecting the option to 'get vts sectors' first and get message saying 'Do you want to process 'ALL IFO files? ...' I have no ifo files yet, but click yes anyway. I still get the same dialogs as above when I try to create the ifo file.

By the way, the vob created has the name vts_01_1.vob if it makes any difference. I selected 255 vob_id's the maximum there.

hi nnigam,
first off i would use ifoedit .971(for some reason dvdshrink doesn't like to still ifos made with .96)

once you press OK you sould see the ifos in the top window. highlight one of them then press Get VTS sectors.
see if that works.
