AVI Authoring?

Is there a way to author a dvd/cd using avi files? Just having buttons link to the avi files? Something simple but creative. I have tried to add avi files to DVDMaestro with no luck.

Of course not. DVD Video is MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 (with defined settings), nothing else.
