I'd like know how to extract pure mpeg2 from vob file, without use any kind of codec like XviD or DivX.
I'd like original mpeg2 in avi file, because I need editing it and it is impossible (to me) edit XviD/DivX avi files in VirtualDub... I think if the problem is the key frame... Allways when I cut some frame, its not happens when I wish... But in AVI mpeg2 files its not happens.
Thanks for attention! :)

Hello, and welcome to the forum.
Are you sure you want to edit video from a DVD? Usually, all you need to do is rip in IFO mode, that will extract a single angle from a single program chain ... usually, the main movie.
Your request is unusual, so if you could describe what problem you're trying to solve, we may be able to find you a much easier way to proceed than by editing video.
If you still want to proceed, here are some thoughts: MPEG-2 video cannot be placed in an AVI container. Whatever you were successfully editing in the past was not in MPEG-2 format. It might have been uncompressed video, or it might have been in a codec that doesn't use the MPEG keyframes that are causing you editing trouble.
Like MPEG-4 codecs (DivX, XviD, etc.), MPEG-2 uses I-frames, P-frames, and B-frames. Therefore, MPEG-2 will not solve your problem.
VirtualDubMod can open MPEG-2 streams, but you still have multiple frame types to deal with.
The easiest way to extract and decompress MPEG-2 video from a set of VOB files is with DVD2AVI or the newer version, called DGIndex. Most people don't put the results into an AVI file for editing. Instead, most people frameserve the raw video to their editors or encoders, after saving a "project file" from DGIndex or DVD2AVI. That's because uncompressed video consumes massive amounts of disk space.
One could, I suppose, still save the raw video to disk. If so, I recommend the HuffYUV codec. It is lossless, you may cut at any frame, and it is fast. But, it only compresses at approximately 3:1.
There are several different frameserving technologies available; the most popular here is AviSynth, due to its speed, scripting language, and the vast numbers of filters available to edit/modify video. But it is a programming language, and might be too complex for the newbie just starting out. I would recommend installing and using Gordian Knot, it makes an effective AviSynth script generator. An alternative to AviSynth which might be easier to use, and might meet your needs, is VFAPI. The choice, obviously, is yours.

umm not strictly true. from memory ffvfw could encode mpeg1/2 in to an avi and play it back. but i also know of no tool to stream original frames in to an avi which is what he wants.
so what you really want songa is a better mpeg2 editor for accurate cutting yes ?

It may surprise you to learn that in fact, ATI has been doing this for years. Their so-called "VCR2" codec is actually writing MPEG-2 I-frames into its AVI capture files. I forget who first told me this, but I was able to verify it myself. (VirtualDub-MPEG2 can actually be tricked into parsing one of these AVIs as if it were an MPEG-2 elementary video stream!)
Funny thing, though, in VCR2 the Cb and Cr planes are swapped.

Thanks for correcting my misinformation -- yep, my nametag is proved correct again.
Of course, for songa's purposes, this is probably academic.

Thanks for teach me guys (thanks a lot!) :)
well, I'd like edit video to cut-off some scenes (stages/parts) like introductions which repeat all time. An example is Futurama series... I'd like cut-off the inicial introduction and the final credits.
If I try edit in XviD or DivX avi file, I can't do this.
I think which better is: first - extract the original video. second - edit it. and third - encode it to Xvid or DivX
Its all I want!
(sorry me about my poor english!)

cutting can be done with AviSynth or VirtualDub/Mod, you can get the script functions for AviSynth with the preview of AVSEdit or DVX and the script functions for VirtualDub/Mod either directly in VirtualDub/Mod or with DVX. Easiest solution, follow the assistant in DVX, for DVD's it won't suggest you to cut, you can however do it (cut before you make the compressibility check) as long as you don't use MP4 or MKV with mkvmerge, DVX is versatile but this is not tested
