Hi Everyone, as you can see I am a noob in desperate need of help. I have multiple avi files that I have extracted from multiple dvds that I want to put together on 1 dvd. I tried converting them to mpeg but they all come out in huge filesizes. I tried doing it in nero, but it will only let me put about 1 on a dvd. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Do you want a standalone conform DVD or just store the AVI's @ DVD ???

The standard ISO/UDF data-mode allows to burn multiple files @ DVD...

I guess you have used Nero's Video-DVD mode to burn the AVI's, right ???

Bye

What I would like to ultimately have is all these movies on one dvd that can play in any standalone dvd player.

*Any* standalone DVD player? Then they'll need to be converted to DVD format. This process includes re-encoding video to MPEG-2 in DVD resolution, re-encoding audio, building menus, and other authoring steps.

But this is not recommended. You likely will not like the quality of going from AVI to DVD. Doom9 has two guides on AVI -> DVD conversion (http://www.doom9.org/conversionguides.htm). See the opening paragraph in his "CCE" guide for reasons why you won't like the results.

For authoring, which you will need in order to combine your videos onto a single DVD, he has 11 different guides available here (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdauthoring.htm).

None of these guides are designed for the newbie. There are "consumer-grade" video editing applications that can automate much of this work for you, including all transcoding, re-encoding, building menus, and even burning DVDs. One of these is Ulead VideoStudio, which is available as a 30-day trial from www.ulead.com if you'd like to see what these sorts of massively automated, ultra-simple packages can do.

Is there any restriction to the dvd other than the size, or does the time matter too? What I would really like to have is just a bunch of movies on one dvd. I dont know if that would work but I would be interested in finding out

See http://www.videohelp.com/dvd -- the section labelled "Technical Info for DVD-Video" contains the various specifications for PAL and NTSC DVDs.

Since both video and audio can have variable bitrates, there's no simple answer to your question.

But I recommend you try converting ONE .avi to DVD. Since you probably won't like the results, that should make the rest of this an academic discussion.

Well, in my case I'm looking for quantity not quality. I want to fit as many 700 meg movies I can on 1 dvd that will play in a standalone player
