Hi,
Anybody can advise if this Zoran Vaddis 7 chipset performs well with divx/xvid movie (2.35 or 1.85:1 aspect ratio) in 16:9 widescreen TV or does it suffer the same problem like ESS chipset.
I am sure all chipsets are doing fine with widescreen DVD but it does make a different performance when it comes to widescreen divx/xvid.

Hi BxWrapper,
Some players using the MediTek chip-set can do what you want with Mpeg4 in AVI!
They can even correctly play back anamorphically encoded streams.

@BxWrapper:
What do you expect exactly ?
The Cyberhome 462 (with Zoran) that i had at home also stretched avi files to make them fit for a 16:9 tv if you mean that.
But it can not read ar flags in avi.

Yes, I learned that MediaTek chipset capable to display correct divx widescreen aspect ratio. Unfortunately, I could not source this type of player in my town.
I have been eyeing Samsung 246 which uses Zoran chipset and I can buy it locally here. I do own three other divx players (Elekta, Nikai and Phillips) but all based on ESS chipset. I know, I shouldn't have all of them since they are the same chipset anyway, but that's another story :)
@Zhnujm
What I expect is that divx movie with 2.35:1 and 1.85:1 aspect ratio is displayed correctly in 16:9 widescreen TV. So, I expect 1.85:1 AR will be displayed almost fullscreen and 2.35:1 AR will be slightly letter boxed.
ESS chipset will display all divx movies as if they are 4.3 format even the the player is set to 16:9 widescreen setting. Then you will see the movie is strecthed horizontally but big letterboxed vertically and gives the perception of fat and short object.
I do realise that some TVs have some kind of zoom and vertical adjustment to get the correct AR but not mine. I am using widescreen LCD (Acer AL1751W) and this set is very basic. :(
So, if you confirm that the Zoran chipset also strecth the non-anamorphic divx movie vertically to fit the widescreen TV and maintain the aspect ratio, I will rush to the store tomorrow to get one of the Samsung 246 :)

Well, i can only say that the Cyberhome 462 can do that (vertical stretch to pseudo anamorphic if the source is 2.35:1 or 1.85:1).
But i cannot say what happens to a 4:3 fullscreen source in that case, most Mediatek players add black bars to the left and right to such a source so you have the full 4:3 picture in the middle of your 16:9 tv. IMHO very annoying.
I can check tomorrow what happens with the cyberhome with zoran chipset in this case.

Just played around a bit, with 4:3 sources it also stretches the height so you can use the full width of the display but loose some information at the top+bottom.
There are also some other modes to fill the screen completely or pan&scan to 16:9 or 4:3.
