Editing/converting videos?

Hi,

I am a bit new to the whole scene, please help me out:

1. I have some videos from the internet, sizes vary 100-300 Mb. I want to cut some scenes from the videos, to make them shorter. Then I want to save the videos NOT LOOSING quality. Where do I start?

2. I used Windows Movie Maker (xp sp2), to cut the video, but then I want to save the result, and I have no idea what format to choose to preserve original quality :(

3. Are there any other better programs to cut and save the videos?

4. What are the best (better) formats to use? the videos I have are some "xvid" coded.

Oh, ok. Loud and clear.

"DV" sub-forum is the closest to the word "Editing" from the "Capturing and Editing Video" group.

I assume you obtained your files legally. But to help you we need more information about the file format, especially the container. If it's AVI, then you may use VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod, and using the "Direct Stream Copy" option you won't lose quality.
