converting .bin/.cue files

how come you can't convert a .bin/.cue file on your computer without having to burn the image onto a cd?? Or can you. My buddy sent me a file to burn onto a cd but its way more of a hassle if I have to burn it and then give it to him rather than converting it from those files right into the format its gonna play in when burnt!1! if anyone has any suggestions let me know it will save me lots of time.

Mount the .bin/.cue with Daemon tools. Then you can access the file directly. If you want to extract the MPEG2 (I assume it's an SVCD image) for conversion you have to take a slightly other root. There are some programs that can do this. If I remember correctly Isobuster can. I had another program but I have to search my HD for that. Maybe I can dig it up.

Edit: Found it. It's actually VCDGear 3.50 which can be found on the full software page of doom9. Usage is actually straight forward. Good luck.

Just open the cue sheet with Isobuster, and extract the CD as either "user data" or "raw to user" if you're just trying to convert it to standard ISO image. If you just want to extract the contents (e.g., files/folders), you can just do that directly from isobuster without a ny need to convert the image first. Isobuster even correctly preserves the last-modified timestamp when creating NTFS directories! Not even WinRAR can do that.

Generally, a set of "bin/cue" files indicates that the CD image has been saved in "raw" mode; that's 2352 bytes instead of 2048 bytes/sector, and will generally appear as follows in your cue:
TRACK 01 MODE1/2352

It is almost always better to maintain just the "user data" part of the image and let your burner regenerate the error correction code. Besides, why waste the extra space with useless subchannel junk.
