DVD Decrypter Read Speed

I was just curious what determined how fast DVD decrtypter reads a dvd and what determines how fast DVD shrink compresses a movie? Mine has a read rate of 2.3x. I searched the forums and somewhere I saw that the your dvd drives firmware version ultimately defines how fast your drive is, and thats what determines DVD decrypters read speed. If this is true, how do you find out your drives firmware ver. and can it be updated from the manufactures website?

Using DVD Decrypter 3.5.1.0, right click on the drive selection drop down box and click 'Firmware Updates...'

It'll take you to a page (hopefully!) that'll list all of the firmware updates available for your drive.
