Soundstorm is back

For all the AC3Filter fans out there, Soundstorm is back!
What is so good about Soundstorm? Well it can do exactly what AC3Filter does, but it does it with hardware. Many Nvidia fans were dissapointed not to see Soundstorm showing up in the latest Nvidia chipsets? Therefor The Inguirer knocked on Nividia door for more details.

- Dual Opteron (dual core) support
- SLI
- Soundstorm
- 1gig lan

I never really personally saw the need for a mainboard with SoundStorm ( I don't have an external AC3 decoder anyway so I never cared for SoundStorm when buying a new mainboard ) but still like the idea of one PCI card less in my system ( glad I don't need a network card anymore since my board has two MACs :) ). Unfortunatly this article sounds like we have to wait for nForce5 or a new revision of nForce4 before seeing SoundStorm again. Or maybe nVidia plans on joining the soundcard business...

Whatever "competetive sound technology on-board" is still a "nice to have" but not necessary for me.

Idd, if you dont have a digital amp, you dont see the real strength of it.
Nvidia is currently negotiating for licensing their Dolby technology and might make appearances in Nforce 5.
Also DTS may be an option coz DTS is offered to Nvidia with a lower price and there are pretty much DTS amps out as well. But this requires Nvidia to design a new sound chip.
Will wait and see which path Nvidia will chose for.

Just wonder why other soundcards dont offer hardware dolby encoding, license is only 5dollar i have read somewhere. I am prepared to pay 5 dollar then to have turn to sofware based solutions.

We listen closely to our customers' feedback and ... are very pleased with outstanding adoption of our audio technology and the passion that our customers have and continue to exhibit for SoundStorm. We have chosen to not include the SoundStorm APU in our current nForce4Maybe they listened to some customers but not all. Its funny they say they listened and then had to have this press release. Pretty stupid.

The last motherboard I bought had SoundStorm which was the main reason for getting the board. It is just so damn convienient and nVidias software gets better with every release. Some of the newer software even has the new "Dolby Digital Live" logo in it.

It looks like nVidia and AMD will lose business here to Intel's High Definition audio. Oh well, back to Intel.
