WMP does not play video

I am making a backup of Fahrenheit 9/11 and when I tried playing the backup, WMP 9 shows all black video but apparently the audio works. I tried playing the same backup with PowerDVD 5 and it displays both the video and audio.

Is this a feature of WMP? If so, can I disable this feature?

what is the format of your backup?
what codec do you use for video?

I used DVD2DVD and made a back up. I tried the original and WMP was able to play it.

Does not WMP ask you if you want to download a codec when it is not available?

Also I have used the same software and settings to back up other movies. I have successfully backed up other movies such as Passion of the Christ and that movie backup played in both PowerDVD and WMP.
