Has anyone been able to pass through DTS with Winamp? If so, please share your exact settings. I know the file in question works because my receiver detects the DTS stream when I burn the file to CD. Furthermore I have no difficult in playing DVDs with DTS content using PowerDVD.

I also had the same problem.. I had to use PowerDVD instead. Then it worked fine (I only had to convert the file from *.wav to *.dts -> search in the forum for a program for this operation).
Good luck!

Try to associate WAV files with the direct show decoder plugin. Also disable Winamps WAV format plugin. Furthermore make sure the necessary DirectShow filters are installed (e.g. PowerDVD or WinDVD). Set Winamp to DirectSound output. I hope that helps.

I can play *.DTS and *.AC3 files with PowerDVD just fine. I want to use WinAMP to play WAV files. Now tiki is on to something! I did as you specified but still could not get it work. I associated WAV files with ffdshow, which can decode DTS. Dropping a WAV file on a media player such as BSplay works. For some reason when I do the same thing with WinAmp, ffdshow is not invoked. I double clicked on the file properties in Winamp, and the "current used filters" section is empty.

As I said: You have to disable the Winamp plugin for uncompressed formats first: Open Winamp and hit <Control> + P. Now look for the input plugins. There is something called WAV decoder. Disable the WAV extension in its properties. Then look for the DirectShow decoder and add .WAV to the extensions it handles.
I'm sitting on a Linux box right now, but I might head over to a Windows PC later on to have a look for the exact phrases.

Sorry if I have not been clear, but I already did that. The DirectShow input filter does not invoke ffdshow (as the other media players do.)

Can you do the following:
Grab Graphedit from the doom9 download page. Now open the files you want to play in Graphedit by 'Render file'. Please report back what filters you see in the chain.

Graphedit shows that ffdshow decodes the WAV file, and routes it to Default DirectSound Device. I was able to play the file just fine with Graphedit.
Do I need a newer DirectSound plug-in for Winamp?

I'm puzzled. You're really sure that you added the .WAV extension to the DirectShow plugin configuration and removed it from the WAV decoder? Which version of Winamp do you use? Maybe you have to post over at the Winamp forums. Actually I never tried to use the DirectShow plugin of Winamp for anything serious. Another option would be to use foobar2000 which can decode DTS as well.
