I have made oh so many clips from ntsc digital cable captures using a WinTV capture card but of late have become a bit more concerned wih the final encodes. The mass majority are simple IVTC's along with a few interlaced examples thrown in so choosing the correct combinations of telecide/decimate (decomb521) or deinterlace (KernelDeint1.4.0) was pretty straight forward. But occasionally I capture some clips that are conversions from PAL->NTSC or hybrids for NTSC DVB. I've been laxed in the past on these letting marginal encodes on my part to slip by with slight combing and ghosting present. I'd like to change this.
I've scowered the forums and websites for as much info as possible (surely have missed some) but have yet to fully grasp the ability to visualize all the intermingling possibilities. Direction to as comprehensive as possible sites/threads regarding these issues would be greatly appreciated.
A current example would be the clip lnked below. I assume it is a PAL->NTSC conversion for NTSC broadcast. It looks to have 5-interlaced followed by 1-progressive frame with some blended fields. This is my best guess and what it is I am attempting to grasp fully. I am in awe at a good number of you that can discern so quickly this facet of clip determination and would appreciate guidance here recommending the proper Avisynth2.5 filter choices (either those listed above or upgrades if applicable).
