Hello everyone, Motown has released Karaoke CD's with the Singing Machine label, these cds feature the original artists backing tracks and vocals. The cd's are composed of 16 tracks, The first 8 with the backing track on the left channel and the lead vocal on the right channel. The last 8 tracks have the stereo instrumentals of the tracks. They're available at towerrecords.com and cduniverse.com and can also be found at your local Best Buy and other outlets. They retail for $9.99 and have released 12 Volumes so far.

With these tracks, Adobe Audtion, and BeSweet I have been able to make 5.1 Reproductions of these songs.

5.1 Setup

Center Channel
I extracted the center channel of the instrumental with the the "Center Channel Extractor" in adobe audition, then used the Pan/Expand preset "Center On The Right". After my center was on the right I converted the sample type (F11) %100 of the Right channel converted to mono. I then mixed it in the multitrack with the Lead vocal and outputted it to a 16-Bit mono track. (with the Lead Vocal being dominant).

Front Left and Right
Used the stereo instrumental and had the lead vocal playing low in the mix in the multitrack, just enough to hear it but so its not overpowering the instrumental. I used the "Studio Reverb" feature on the lead vocal in this mix.

LFE
I used the FFT Filter preset "Only Subwoofer" for this and then converted it to mono with %50 of the Left and %50 of the right stereo channel. I then decreased the amplification -25dB. (This adjustment may vary from song to song)

Surround Channels
I used the stereo instrumental for the surrounds and applied the Center Channel Extractor with these settings

After that I also mixed in the lead vocals with the Studio Reverb applied and also with the Center Channel Extractor applied that I used for the instrumental. This gave me a nice vocal reverb to mix subtly in the surrounds.

Of course I then encoded with BeSweet

Here is a AC3 5.1 Sample encoded at 448kbps of "Got To Be There" by Michael jackson, just 1 of 96 motown tracks released so far in this form. It has each of the channels comng in at their on time. (Center Channel lead vocal first then accompanied by the instrumental's extracted center channel, then surrounds and then the fronts for a total full mix, then the vocals are gone from each channel and it becomes a 5.1 instrumental of the song).

Looks good, SurroundBoy. I've added this to the guide list along with your update to your original guide.
