Quite a novel idea. A standalone player fitted with a hard-drive (and USB2.0 connection) instead of an DVD drive!
But at around $200.00 (without hard-drive) I think it's far too expensive!

Have anyone tried it yet?
I think it's a very nice product (a little too expensive), but I wanted to see a good review about it. Especially the codec support.
Ok, It support Divx and Xvid.. but witch profile? Simple? What about 2 b-frames, and other stuff that I always use when enconding? What about resolution? Can It handle 720xXXX and things like that? Can It play AVIs with AC3 sound? And mp4 files? What about OGM?
And picture quality? Is it good?
Well... I would like to know stuff like this..
Anyone?? :)

This might be a little OT here but since this thread is about a new player this might be of interest to people wanting a DVD Recorder that can also spin mpeg4 files.
Its a completely new chipset by lsi-logic that can record to mpeg2 and decode mpeg4.
Information:
here (http://www.lsilogic.com/products/recorder_dvd_dvr_dtr/dmn_8602.html)
and a product by LG Electronics (http://www.lsilogic.com/news/product_news/2004_10_26.html)
The data sheet (http://www.lsilogic.com/files/docs/marketing_docs/consumer/dmn8602_pb.pdf) suggests that the player can decode AAC and is compliant with Mpeg4 specs which would mean that it plays .mp4
It also has an USB Controller.
Could be interesting...

hm the new chipset sounds indeed interesting, still they dont give much info on what they really support when talking about mpeg-4 video, also its a question whether LG really enables aac in its product (and pay the license fees)
