Hey,

I edit in Premiere Pro, and that's a fairly un-MPEG friendly thing, no matter what i try with it.

What good programs or methods can anyone reccomend to get my DVD to a DV Avi?

I think maybe DVD2AVI (or whatever it's called now), but is that the only option?

James.

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

DVD2AVI is a good solution. For simple one-pass encoding to .avi, it should work. But I've never used DVD2AVI for encoding, so can't answer much questions about that operation. Like most people, I use it for creating project files (.d2v) for use with AviSynth. That probably won't be much use to you for this process.

In addition, I prefer to use HuffYUV rather than a DV codec for these sorts of interim steps. That's because HuffYUV is lossless, while DV has some loss. But that's my personal preference. If you decide to use DV, you'll need to install a DV codec; see the stickies in this forum. You can find HuffYUV in the download pages of Doom9's website.

Good luck!
