It's time to test the new Nero Vision Express! (with or without H.264 codec?)

Very slooow download and Nero Vision Update is the biggest of the packages

A quick test seems to indicate IVTC'ing of NTSC DVDs works again (for the first time in several versions)!

But the only difference I can notice is the major version number changed :(

Only 2 audio tracks

No option to set an arbitrary PAR...

I'm getting many clicks and pops from the HE-AAC encoder since this release (unlistenable using both Nero and CoreAAC decoders). Same settings I've used before: HE-AAC/5.1/192kpbs/48kHz in Recode2. Granted, these settings have always been far from transparent, but why the clicks and pops with this new release? Anyone else having this problem?

I tried only one encode with this version and I noticed the same thing... I believe it was caused by some editing trouble, but I should do some more test to be sure of that :rolleyes:

On the plus side, the ShowTime player is able to decode Mpeg4/mp3 in MP4 again.

When switched on, both AAC and mp3 audio bitrates are correctly displayed in the player.

In fact, the whole feel of the player appears to be more responsive... Nice one!

Shame the audio DSdec filter still isn't usable in any software player other than WMP9/10...

but ffdshow's aac decoder can connect, i play in mpc

I see a difference in the Aac.dll file in the ..\Common Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins subdirectory:

Aac.dll 8/5/2004 / 1076KB vs. 10/3/2004 / 1192KB

I copied the entire old subdirectory (NVE 2.1.2.21) over the new one (3.0.1.4) and ran a test. I haven't had a chance to listen to the entire sample but, initially, I'd say the clicks and pops are gone.

Update: nope, they're not gone, but they're just on this one clip. It's not in the original source though. Strange! It's not 3.0.14 though.

I encoded the clip with BeSweetGUI/BSN/Nero HE-AAC (Aac.dll - 10/03/2004). No clicks and pops. Weird!

This is indeed strange, the AAC.dll (v2.5.9.10) file I have is the same for both, NVE (v2.1.2.21) Released 24Sep2004 and NVE (v3.0.1.4) Released 25Oct04.

Although the sizes of many of the files are the same. There's quite a difference between the two releases: -

hmm ... it's really strange. i've just installed nero br 6.6.0.1 and i got :
aac.dll 1192k 25.10.2004
aacenc32.dll 960k 26.08.2004
other files in the audio dir are also dated to oct.2004. maybe it's the new policy. if u don't buy/download/get the whole bunch u wont get the newest of all parts :-) can't get it, anyway.

Okay... I think I understand why my install is different!

I did not bother installing the Nero6 (v6.6.0.1) update.... I only installed the NVE3 (v3.0.1.4) update.

Before I had my OEM version of Nero6 I used to install the "monthly" updates. And as I don't do much CD/DVD burning, all I used to install was NeroVision Express 2.

I found that NVE2 could run and work quite correctly, without Nero6...

Personally speaking I would much prefer it if Ahead marketed and sold NVE3 or even Recode2 as totally separate products!
