I know there are various threads on the Doom9 forum that address aspect ratios, but I'm still a bit confused by it all.

I wish to convert Type II PAL DV (720x576) source files to PAL DVD using TMPGenc for properly sized TV playback on my standalone DVD player. The files are captured from a Sony DCR-115E MiniDV camcorder using WideoWave, edited, re-produced as Type I and then converted to Type II with Ulead TypeI/TypeII converter. From the File Information obtained with VirtualDub, DVSoft (Adaptec) is the selected DV decompressor.

From several articles I have read, the recommended Advanced settings in TMPGenc for PAL DV capture sources are:

Source Aspect Ratio - 4:3 625line (PAL) or 4:3 Display
Video Arrange Setting - Full Screen(Keep Aspect Ratio)

However, when I load the source file (using either the Project Wizard or PAL DVD template) the S.A.R changes to 4:3 625 line (PAL 704x576).

Is this the correct selection for my PAL DV sources or should I use just 4:3 625 line (PAL)? If it is correct, should I then use Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio) or just Full Screen?

Really would appreciate some definitive advice on this.

I would set SAR to Vga 1:1 and Centre Custom resize 720x576.

For me the full screen Keep aspect ratio is a bit hit and miss.

4:3, Full screen (keep aspect ratio).

You can see a preview double-clicking the [clip frame] option @ [advance] tab deactivating [resized image used to display preview].
