I'm a newbie for sure, since i've just been using DVDshrink to backup all dvd's.
Now I want to take it one step further and edit my own dvd. I want to rip a dvd, then edit and take out clips and and add clips-that i design in adobe premier and after-effects.
I have Gordian Knot and DVD Decrypter and DVD shrink.
I hope I can do this if it's possible, I keep reading all of the guides but I get confused from all of the different file formats.
thanks in advance

hi and welcome to the forum,

unfortunately with the software you mentioned above, you won't come very far. dvddecrypter will still be needed to get the original files from the dvd to your hard drive, but shrink and gk won't help you there. what you need is

a) an application that let's you reencode the clips you created in premiere or after effects to a dvd compliant format - in other words convert the video to mpeg2 and the audio to either ac3 or pcm (latter will require a lot more space) CCE (conema craft encoder) is one application you can use to get the job done, so is TmpegEnc, both of which are available as a trial download...

b) and secondly, you'll need an application that puts all your pieces together and make a working dvd out of it, with all the fancy stuff you want, like menus multiple audio streams, subtitles, etc, etc
this process is called authoring - popular applications include dvdlab, tmpegdvdauthor, maestro or scenarist NT. unfortunately none of them are free, all though there is a _huge_ price difference between the first two and the last! so for starters i'd suggest you get to know dvd lab or TmpegDVDAuthor a bit!

hopefully this will help you a bit,
